Qalun
Qalun is usually made of mulberry wood.Its echo box is in the shape of stairs.The front is narrow,the
back is wider,the leeft side is crooked and the right side is straight.It is put on a frame or on the ground
when played.And it is played by finger tapping the strings with the right hand thumb,index finger and
middle finger and pressing and stumming the strings with left hand.Its sound is melodic and it has a special
trembling Sound.
Qalun has many klnds with16,18,24and40strings and each string is made of two steel strings and
adjusted to a natural tone.They are arranged according to natural sound orders.
Qalun is an ancient instrument.Many expens in the world think that it was invented by Abu Nasir
Mohammed Faraby,the famous Uighur scientist and musician of Qarluk between 870and950A.D.
As the Turkish people moved east and the lslam began to spread,Qalun spread out to many countrles.
It was the product of ISlamic and TurkiSh ClVllization,
NoW there exists its primitive forim it the county of Makit,Maralbishi,Awat and so on.It is one of the
main instrumentS used for Dolan Muqam.
Although Qalun began to flourish in the areas of Kashgar
generation instrument Chang took the place of it.
