Baliman
Baliman is held horizontally and played by blowing air from one end.There are many holes on it and it
is played by pressing with fingers like the pipe.Its length is about twent—eight centimeters.The trembling
of reeds makes melodic sound.It is very common in the areas ofHotan.The present—day Baliman has eight
holes and its sound range is between cl and c2.The way of pressing with fingers is the same as the pipe.
Baliman is one of the ancient instruments and it was called,Bili’in the book Encyclopedia of Laws.
And it Was alSo Called’Pipi’.
There are clear pictures of it in all the thousand caves which belonged to the times of Han,jin of from
South and North dynasties to Sui Dynasty.The Baliman in those pictures has seven SoUnd holes.In addition
in the Thousand Caves of Turpan there are pictures of a musician playing coupled Baliman.
