ئۇيغۇر چالغۇ ئاتالغۇلىرى Surnay It iS made of Wood by carving the inSide and making the Wood hollow．And iS played by bloWing air． It lookS like a hoot．Some of them are made of copper and they are called’copper Burgha’and played by holding it horizontally． ئۇيغۇر چالغۇ ئاتالغۇلىرى Surnay The aBCient Uighur Surnay was made of date wood．The presellt—day Surnay is made of apricot Wood and other high quality hard Wood．On the tip of the small end，there is a whistle which is made of reed alld it can be changed as one wishes．The other end gradually becomes bigger like a hoot．On it there are many hiles like Baliman．It is played by pufflng air with the mouth and pressing with fingers．The length of Surnay is about 43 centimeters and the diameter of the bigger end(the copper Surnay)is around 8 Gertdmeters．On some of the high quality Surnay there is some beautiful fretwork．There are eight holes in all，seven holes on the upper end and one hole on the lower elld．The lower ho1e is under the first upper hole．Its sound ranges from el to g2．The way of pressing with fingers is the same as Nay and Baliman． Surnay was made and developed according to the principles of sach instruments as Burga about2000 years ago．In the beginning it was made of cow horn and laterit was made of wood and copper． Surnay has loud sound and in ancient times it was used during military activities along with drums． Throughout the history Surnay and Drums have been the special symbol of joy during ally festivtiies．And they are still being used on the occasions of celebration，wedding and entenainment．
