KamenChe
Kamenche is the most ancient and primtive Uighur musical instrument. In was used by our ancestors at
the early stages of primitiVe society, which was made on the basis of a longbow.Around the times ofA.D.
its strings were increased from one string to multi strings and it was called Ghonqa.
Kamanche was the descendant of all the stringed instruments which were invented several thousands of
yearS ago and Widely used.
Although there were not enough records on Kamenche, there is a picture which was drawn during the
3rd century in No.38 cave of,Kizil Thousand Caves,in Bay county.In this perfectly preserved mural(fres-
co),there is an instrumentalist who is playing,The Music of Heaven, with a Kamenche on the left hand and
tapping the strings with fingers on the right hand.In later years, the strings of Kamenche were replaced with
the bristles of horse tails by tying them to string instruments. In this way the sound was made by struming
the strings and many such instruments were invented.FOr quite a long time, they were also called Ka-
menche, and since then the different kinds of Kamenche began to emerge.
