[C,U] (in England and Wales in the past) an exam in a particular subject, at a lower level than ALEVEL, usually taken at the age of 16. In 1988 it was replaced by the GCSE:
O level French / chemistry * She took six subjects at O level. * He's got an O level in Russian.
